TMJ PAIN

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain originates from dysfunction of the joint formed by the upper jaw bone (mandible) and the temporal bone. When the two bones fail to articulate smoothly, opening the mouth often gives rise to a cracking sound and perhaps pain and over time can result in the jaw locking open or closed. This problem is usually accompanied by trigger points in the chewing muscles and muscles of the neck, as well as more remote trigger points in the muscles of the upper back and chest.

All of these can be addressed by therapeutic massage as well as dental procedures and anti-inflammatory medication. In addition to massage being beneficial, there are many alterations that a person can make in the way he/she addresses daily activities that can aid in the successful management of this problem and the diminution of pain.
